Lie Detectors for Lawmakers
The process of asking questions is important! No, we're not going to strap things to lawmakers, but we do hope to bring more transparency to the political system and engage to the American public.

"Food for thought... shouldn't be missed." - Columbia Daily Tribune

"'An iron hand in a velvet glove', this documentary offers a cinematic mirror that allows U.S. citizens to see ourselves through the eyes of the world. The image you see in this well done and powerful documentary might surprise you."
-Godfrey Reggio, Producer, Director Koyaanisqatsi and Qatsi Trilogy

What does the rest of the world think of U.S. domestic and foreign policy? While the U.S. is perceived as a beacon of democracy, how does it compare to other democratic nations? Americans are continually told through their media that freedom and democracy are supported abroad, but is it true?

Shot in ten countries, Considering Democracy weaves together seemingly different topics into an interconnected tapestry of information. People from around the world act as a mirror for Americans to see a reflection of political power in the United States.

The hour length documentary brings views from around the world, mixing it with information and empowerment.  There are study and discussion menus to help people continue the dialog.  There are also action links to other organizations doing good things, as well as Supreme Court historical digs to better understand our current times.

This film is more than just views.  Extensive research was carried out to see if what people were saying was true.  I found out some very interesting things and made a list of 8 questions to ask in the following categories: Work and Leisure, Healthcare, Media, Foreign Policy, Foreign Aid, Campaign Finance, Lobbying and the Revolving Door.  The online shorts (YouTube, Blip.tv etc.) are small pieces of the project, based on research during the postproduction of the film.

As an American, I want to see open and respectful dialog between people and groups.  I believe in the perseverance of humanity and respect the beauty in democracy. As more people begin open dialog, I believe this will bring strength and courage to American democracy.

While I am just one person (A Girl with a Camera Productions) if we work together, our reach and strength increases.  Host a screening party and invite people who might not know about these issues. Begin talking about possible solutions. Together we can get many things accomplished.
